Interest in the Scottish housing market from buyers from outwith Scotland has risen by as much as 50 per cent since this year’s Homecoming role got underway.
So says Matthew Sinclair, director of Edinburgh-based property search agency Saint Property, which specialises in finding Scottish castles, country houses, sporting estates and Edinburgh townhouses for buyers with limited time for house hunting.
The year-long Homecoming event, celebrating the 250th anniversary of Robert Burns, has been bringing those with Scottish connections homewards as well as those keen to know more about the country. As well as the festivities, their travels have been encouraging them to take more than a passing interest in the country’s housing market.
“For buyers outside Scotland, search agents provide the perfect solution to any problems faced with finding a property here and will save the buyer a considerable amount of time and money,” commented Matthew Sinclair.
“Saint Property is an independent specialist in the Scottish market. We use our knowledge to guide buyers through the quirks of the Scottish system and secure a fair price on behalf of the buyer. We also have access to properties which are not available on the open market and can be sold in a private deal.”
Since the start of Homecoming Scotland 2009 the company has seen buyers from outside Scotland being especially interested in estates and land, as well as properties, in Perthshire, the Borders and Edinburgh. While some of these Homecoming Year buyers are wanting a new family home, others are seeking out a base for retirement. Others are keen to land a holiday property.
“Those choosing Scotland as a destination for their holiday home can enjoy access to world renowned sailing, walking, deer stalking fishing and much more,” explained a spokesperson for Saint Property. “Buyers are also looking at Scottish property as an investment, particularly now that yields from other kinds of investment have dropped so dramatically.
“Scottish property compares favourably in terms of price to properties of the same calibre in other areas of the UK such as the south east of England.”
